Freecom or Samsung? - Very quick delivery, as other reviewers have commented, appears to have a quality feel about it. Had to laugh at the manufactures label, German technology, made in China . Sure enough, when I initially connected it to my desktop, it was at first identified as a Samsung device, before changing to Freecom. It took a while to transfer 3.5GB of data, but it is a portable device after all. Only snag I have encountered so far has been with the instruction CD that it came with, locked up my aging desktop computer twice. I have awarded Freecom 4 stars, on the fact that it comes with a 12 month warranty, compared with competitors that have 3 years, and to pacify my fellow reviewer from Gloucestershire, that not all Yorkshire folk automatically give the product a 5 star rating.
If your a powerbook user, think again... - Well over all this product looks really great and compared to some cheap looking 2.5 drives this one does look great. However functionality wise, well I can t comment because when I came to attaching this thing to my powerbook G4, it turns out the usb port doesn t provide enough power!! After some research I found that this is a common problem and the only way to power it would be to connect the drive to 2 usb ports...however you ll know if you have a powerbook G4 that there are only 2 usb s and they are on either side of the laptop!!! Damn! So although you can pick-up USB y cables to power the thing, at the end of the day it s probably not worth it if you wanna use anything else at the same time. My advise if your using a PC laptop, then it s a real bargin! If your using a MAC, consider getting a IOMEGA 2.5 drive that has firewire and usb, which means you ll power the thing, but have the flexibility of USB.... :)
Class Act. - Very easy to use piece of kit . I bought this as an extension to my laptop & found it very easy to use - plug it in & it s ready to use in less than a minute. I find it almost silent when running & really cannot fault it , especially at the price . Highly recommended .
Excellent but drags quite a bit of power - This is a good external USB drive and the price is right. I have found that it needs more power than its 160 gig smaller brother. Therefore some computers struggle to make it work without an external supply, where the 160 always works. That said it is a good, reliable drive.
suspect reviews? - I m looking to buy a hard drive so have been reading all the amazon reviews... I don t want to cast aspersions on the other reviewers here or the employees of freecom, but is anyone else a little bit suspicious that most of these 5 star reviews were written by people from yorkshire / leeds / harrogate? Guess where Freecom UK is based people? Thats right, Harrogate!Amazon reviews are great in theory but open to abuse I fear. As for the product, never used one, so hedged my bets with 3 stars... ,)
